PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE HEART OF RALEIGH

Hi - I’m Shepard!

I picked up my first camera in middle school. Nothing fancy - just a simple little point and shoot digital camera. Despite the novelty of it, this little camera went on to change my career path. I bought my first DSLR in high school and spent countless hours experimenting with various photography techniques and finding scenic locations around Raleigh. Many hours were spent at the NCMA, JC Raulston Arboretum and Boylan Bridge with both frustration and joy as I figured out how to execute my artistic visions. I have since made major upgrades to my equipment and enjoy taking international trips to amazing locations like Iceland, New Zealand and Thailand to further expand my photography experience.

I have called Raleigh my home for many years! I grew up in the Five Points area and attended Oberlin Middle School and Broughton High School. Spending my formative years in the City of Oaks, I developed a strong appreciation for the city that I still carry with me now as a long term resident.

After graduating from the IB Program at BHS in 2016, I moved the short 30 minutes away to UNC-Chapel Hill where I completed the Environmental Science and Communications dual degree program with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and an M.A. in Media and Communications.

“Shepard has taken wonderful photographs of my family! She picks beautiful locations, is flexible with her time and is patient every time I ask for one more shot.”
